PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall junior Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday.
The 6-foot-6 swingman averaged 23.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in guiding the Pirates to a pair of victories last week. On Tuesday vs. NJIT, Edwin tallied his second double-double of the season with team-highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds. On Saturday, he spearheaded a ferocious comeback as the Pirates rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to defeat Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. Edwin scored 17 of his team-high 24 points in the second half, and also added seven rebounds and four steals.
Edwin is the first Pirate to earn this recognition since Herb Pope did so on Nov. 21 last year. He's only the 19th player in Seton Hall history to be named BIG EAST Player of the Week.
St. John's JaKarr Sampson was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. Members of the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll include: Cincinnati's Sean Kilpatrick, Louisville's Russ Smith, Marquette's Junior Cadougan, Providence's LaDontae Henton and Syracuse's Michael Carter-Williams.
Edwin and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 16 when they host North Carolina A&T at the Prudential Center. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
