SHU Dance Team, The Sapphires
12/6/2012 12:00:00 AM | Cheerleading
The dance team has been a recent addition to the cheerleading program and to the university in the past few years. There is a club team at Seton Hall but the dance team was created to bring a whole new level of excitement to our athletic events. Each dancer is expected to be well-rounded in all styles of dance but we primarily perform jazz, pom, and hip-hop.
The monicker The Sapphires was introduced early in the 2012-13 season.

| Uniforms |
Dancers are required to purchase their uniforms as well as all other necessities. This is so they can keep them and reuse them for the next year. Over the past few years, the generous donors have provided the team with jazz shoes as well as practice clothes. The budget also covers a majority of your practice clothes.
|
| Camps |
SHU has previously attended the UCA camp at The University of Scranton in early August in the past. We have also had a UCA private camp in late September. Attending camp will depend on when tryouts are held as well as the turnout at the tryouts.
|
| Practices |
Practices are held 2-3 times per week for about two hours. A number of different dance routines are learned throughout the year and many different styles. Dances are taught during the first practice of the week and then are cleaned up and perfected during the next practice.
|
| Contests & Events |
The team is required to attend every home contest for volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball as well as a number of appearances and other events throughout the year.
It is also expected that the team participate in different charity events during the season.
The dance team also performs at halftime of BIG EAST Tournament contests.
