SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - As the start of the 2012-13 men's basketball season closes in, Seton Hall is heading overseas for a 10-day tour of Spain and the Canary Islands.
The team-building exhibition trip will begin on Monday, Aug. 13 as the team flies to Madrid. While in the Spanish capital, the Pirates will play a pair of exhibition games vs. CB Torrejon on Wednesday and Thursday. The team, accompanied by a sizeable group of loyal Pirate Blue supporters, will also take tours of the historic city and take in the Spanish Culture at dinner shows and events.
On Friday Aug. 17, Seton Hall will depart Madrid for the Canary Islands. Also known as the Canaries, the Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa, 62 miles off the coast of Morocco and the Western Sahara. Seton Hall has recruited well in this region as four current Pirates are alumni of the Canarias Basketball Academy (CBA), Patrik Auda, Aaron Geramipoor, Haralds Karlis and Tom Maayan.
While in the Islands, the Pirates will play three more exhibition games. They'll face CB Gran Canaria U20 on both Saturday and Tuesday, Aug. 21, as well as Gran Canaria Select on Monday, Aug. 20. When they're not on the hardwood, Seton Hall will sightsee along Maspalomas Beach and enjoy an all-day tour of Gran Canaria Island by boat, which includes snorkeling, on Sunday, Aug. 19.
Seton Hall will return to its South Orange campus late on August 22.
Be sure to follow the Pirates along their journey overseas on twitter @SHUathletics and on www.SHUpirates.com. We will be providing updates and recaps of each exhibition game while the team is across the Atlantic.
