MADRID, SPAIN - Sophomore Aaron Cosby (Louisville, Ky.) and junior Patrik Auda (Brno, Czech Republic) combined to score 42 points as the Seton Hall men's basketball team throttled C.B. Torrejon, 95-70, Wednesday in its first of five exhibition games while touring Spain and the Canary Islands.
Cosby scored a team-high 23 points and was an impressive 5-for-8 from three-point range. Getting the start at point guard, he also led the Pirates with seven assists.
Auda added 19 points, while sophomores Brandon Mobley (Savannah, Ga.) and Haralds Karlis (Riga, Latvia) chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively.
As a team, Seton Hall shot 50% from the field, including 52% from behind the three-point arc.
Kevin Johnson (Compton, Calif.), Kyle Smyth (River Edge, N.J.) and Gene Teague (Vineland, N.J.) made their Pirate debuts, while junior swingman Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) displayed his usual fine defensive effort with five steals. Edwin led the nation with 102 steals last season.
Teague and junior Aaron Geramipoor (Manchester, England) led the team in rebounding with seven each.
Every Pirate scored in the game with the exception of Tom Maayan (Galil, Isreal) and Brian Oliver (Glassboro, N.J.) who did not play. Maayan is completing his rehab from an ACL tear and Oliver is nursing a slight ankle sprain. Both players are expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.
"I was pleased with the overall effort of our guys," said Head Coach Kevin Willard. "Plenty of things for us to work on, but it was a good physical game which starts off the trip on a good note."
The Pirates will face C.B. Torrejon again on Thursday night. Game time is 7:00 pm locally and 1:00 pm Eastern Time. Pirate fans can follow the action via twitter: @SHUathletics and get the official post-game story on www.SHUpirates.com.
