Junior Chloe Sher (Tin Shui Wai, Hong Kong) completed the two weekend matches with a combined 4-0 record for The Hall (0-3) after posting a singles win and teaming with Rocio Portela (Demetrio Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) to secure a doubles victory for the second straight day.
In doubles, Sher and Portela picked up their ninth win as a pair in 2012-13, breezing past Binghamton's duo of Agatha Ambrozy and Katherine Medianik, 8-2. Both of their wins this weekend came by a margin of at least five games, giving the pair of juniors six such victories so far this season.
The Pirates fell at the second and third doubles positions however, giving the Bearcats the doubles point.
In singles, Sher scored SHU's first point of the match, dropping only one game on her way to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Medianik, Binghamton's #1 singles player.
An All-BIG EAST Women's Tennis Team selection after recording over 20 wins from the top spot in the lineup as a sophomore, Sher has now won 12 of her first 17 matches and is a perfect 3-0 in dual match play dating back to the fall.
SHU came up short in the next two matches to be decided though, giving the team match to the Bearcats.
Despite the result, sophomore Maria Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia) went on to score an impressive victory from the sixth spot while making her first singles appearance in three dual matches this season. Up against Missy Edelblum, Rodriguez rebounded from a first set tiebreak loss to take the next two, 6-3, 6-4.
With the win, Rodriguez improved to 10-5 on the year.
In the end SHU just a few games short of taking home their first dual match victory. Despite playing up a spot from their normal position in the absence of Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.), who was once again limited due to injury, both Alex Landert (Naples, Fla.) and Madison Shoemaker (Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia) forced their matches to a third set, coming up just short of adding additional points for the Pirates.
SHU returns to action on Friday, February 8 in their 2012-13 home opener against Saint Peter's. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Newark, N.J.
