JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Seton Hall men’s and women’s basketball teams, along with members of the athletic administration made a two-mile walk Saturday in Jersey City as part of the fifth annual Walk for Team Walker Foundation that supports local youth. Hundreds of participants joined together at Exchange Place along the Hudson River with all proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization’s after-school program in the Jersey City area.
“It is an honor to be part of such a wonderful organization that supports our local community,” said Bryan Felt, Seton Hall Associate Athletic Director for Development & External Affairs. “Community outreach is such an important part of the University’s mission and to our athletic department, so to come together with our student-athletes, coaches and administrators today for such a worthwhile cause is tremendous.”
Team Walker was founded in 1996 by Jersey City native Jerry Walker. The organization’s mission is to uplift and create positive alternatives for youth of Jersey City through programs designed to enlighten participants and teach the importance of solid academics, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Walker, a Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer, was a member of the Pirates’ two BIG EAST Championship Teams scoring over 1,000-points from 1990-93.
The walk is a key fundraiser for the Team Walker Foundation. The event featured live music and refreshments. Proceeds from Saturday’s walk will support the Team Walker Learning Center.
