SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The 65th installment of Seton Hall and Rutgers men’s basketball rivalry on Dec. 8 will be televised live on ESPNU. The first meeting of the programs’ new eight-year agreement tips-off at 8 p.m. at the Rutgers Athletic Center. This continues a trend that has made the annual SHU-RU showdown a staple of ESPN’s national college basketball broadcast lineup.
The Pirates’ trip to Piscataway will be their only road contest of seven games in December. It will be the first true away game for The Hall after participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn where they will take on Oklahoma (Nov. 22) and either Michigan State or Virginia Tech (Nov. 23). Seton Hall has won two of its last three visits to the RAC.
Seton Hall holds a 35-29 advantage in the series with Rutgers that dates back to 1916. Seventeen of the last 19 meetings have been decided by six points or less or in overtime. Rutgers has won the last three games, but Seton Hall captured victories in six of the prior eight contests.
Seton Hall and Rutgers officially announced the terms of their non-conference agreement in May that keeps the rivalry going through 2020. Each team will play four of the games on their home court with Seton Hall hosting Rutgers at the Prudential Center in December of 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020. Rutgers’ four home games will be held at the Rutgers Athletic Center in December of 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
