MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Adding to a well-rounded summer regimen that has included extensive work both on the court and in the classroom, one member of the Seton Hall men's basketball team recently had the opportunity to sit down with one of the foremost NBA analysts in the nation.
Early Wednesday morning, SHU forward Patrik Auda (Brno, Czech Republic) joined ESPN's Chris Broussard at Montclair State University where the two conducted a multifaceted interview in front of an audience of over 50 middle school aged attendees.
The event was part of the Write on Sports (WOS) program, an educational initiative founded by former Sports Editor and senior executive of the Associated Press Byron Yake in 2005. Broussard, an on-air personality for ESPN and columnist for ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine, is a member of the WOS Board of Directors. During the exercise, he talked with Auda one-on-one regarding his beginnings overseas, the transition to living and playing in America and his future aspirations. The two then fielded questions from the campers, before breaking up to allow the attendees to conduct personal interviews of their own.
WOS is a non-profit organization that offers a tuition-free program which focuses on the education of middle-school aged youth in particular. Through after-school programs and summer camps such as those that were in attendance on Wednesday, WOS aims to teach students the fundamentals of good journalism and provide outlets for them to engage with sports professionals and apply what they have learned.
"Going over there and speaking with Mr. Broussard and the kids was a great experience," said Auda. "It's always fun to get involved with the community and the kids were very enthusiastic and really impressed me with their questions. Learning from someone like Mr. Broussard is a wonderful opportunity and I was glad I was able to share in that as well."
