SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The BIG EAST Conference unveiled its 2013-14 men's basketball schedule Thursday completing Seton Hall's 31-game slate. The Pirates have 18 home dates with all nine members of the revamped BIG EAST visiting the Prudential Center this season. As part of the conference's landmark partnership with FOX Sports, every BIG EAST Conference matchup will be televised nationally or regionally. Seton Hall opens the campaign against Niagara on Nov. 9 at the Prudential Center.
The conference portion kicks-off with a trip to fellow BIG EAST charter member Providence on New Year's Eve for the programs first contest of the reformed league. It will be the second contest of five consecutive nationally televised games that day as part of a FOX Sports 1 BIG EAST marathon.
The Hall returns to the Prudential Center for a two-game homestand beginning with Creighton on Jan. 4, marking the first meeting between the programs in over 20 years. Villanova visits The Rock on Jan. 8 for the second straight year. The Pirates earned a thrilling comeback victory over the Wildcats last season courtesy of Fuquan Edwin's go-ahead three-pointer with under nine seconds remaining.
The Pirates hit the road for three games traveling to Marquette (Jan. 11), Georgetown (Jan. 18) and St. John's (Jan. 23). Seton Hall is back at the Prudential Center to face DePaul on Jan. 25, and then hosts new conference member Butler on Jan. 29 for the first ever meeting with the Bulldogs.
Seton Hall heads to Xavier (Feb. 1) and Villanova (Feb. 7) before playing five of its next seven games at home. The front end of this stretch features three-straight home games against Marquette (Feb. 11), St. John's (Feb. 13) and Georgetown (Feb. 20). Then after returning games at Creighton (Feb. 23) and DePaul (Feb. 25), the Pirates will play the next two games at the Prudential Center against Providence (Feb. 28) and Xavier (March 3). The Pirates' final game of the regular-season is at Butler on March 8.
The Pirates' non-conference schedule features their participation in the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, which concludes at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Seton Hall will take on Oklahoma in the semifinals on Nov. 22, and then will meet either Michigan State or Virginia Tech the next night. All four games of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Barclays Center will be televised live on truTV.
Seton Hall and Rutgers will meet on Dec. 8 for the 65th installment of the New Jersey college basketball rivalry. It is the first contest of the programs' new eight-year agreement and will be televised live on ESPNU. The Pirates only other road contest of their 13 non-conference games is at Mercer on Nov. 16. The Bears are coming off a 24-win campaign and an Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season title.
The Hall also welcomes Kent State, Monmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island, NJIT, Saint Peter's and Eastern Washington to the Prudential Center. Seton Hall's final non-conference game will be held at historic Walsh Gymnasium against Lafayette.
The 2014 BIG EAST Championship will run from March 12-15 at Madison Square Garden. FOX Sports 1 will televise the entire tournament.
