SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall senior Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Pirates to a 67-57 victory at Georgetown on Saturday. The 6-foot-6 guard scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed six rebounds and made five steals to help the Pirates to their first road win over the Hoyas since 2002-03. It is the third time this season he received a conference weekly accolade (Nov. 18, Dec. 23).
Edwin delivered a remarkable second half effort scoring 19 of his 24 points in the stanza, while making school history becoming the program's all-time steals leader (263). The Pirates' four-year letter winner recorded four of his five steals in the second half to break Dan Callandrillo's (260, 1978-82) career steals mark, which stood for over three decades.
The Paterson, N.J. native buried all four of his 3-point attempts in the second half powering a game changing 15-3 surge midway through the period. He hit three straight trifectas during the run. Edwin finished with five 3-pointers in the contest and moved into the top-10 of Seton Hall's career 3-point field goal list (145). He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists in the victory.
Providence guard Bryce Cotton was named Player of the Week and DePaul's Billy Garrett, Jr. received Rookie of the Week. Doug McDermott (Creighton), James Bell (Villanova), Josh Hart (Villanova) and Dee Davis (Xavier) also were selected to the Honor Roll.
The Hall completes a three-game road series Thursday when the Pirates visit St. John's. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in a national telecast on CBS Sports Network. Seton Hall's radio team Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin will call all the action on 970 AM (WNYM) and on SHUPirates.com.
