
Whitehead Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall freshman Isaiah Whitehead (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Whitehead broke out last week, averaging 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in a pair of Seton Hall victories. On Tuesday vs. Mount St. Mary's, Whitehead had 12 points. On Saturday vs. Rutgers, he endeared himself to the Seton Hall faithful in the newly re-branded Garden State Hardwood Classic. Whitehead scored a career-high 25 points on an efficient 9-for-15 shooting, including 4-for-5 from three-point range, in only 21 minutes. The BIG EAST Preseason Rookie of the Year also had four rebounds and a team-high five assists. For his efforts, Whitehead was named the Joe Calabrese Most Valuable Player, an award given annually to the best player during the Seton Hall/Rutgers rivalry.
St. John's D'Angelo Harrison was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include Butler's Roosevelt Jones, Creighton's Austin Chatman, DePaul's Tommy Hamilton IV, Villanova's Darrun Hilliard and Xavier's Myles Davis.
Whitehead and the rest of the Pirates will return to action tomorrow night when they travel to eighth-ranked Wichita State. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live via ESPN2, and on radio stations AM970 and WSOU FM.
