SEWELL, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team will head into day two of the swimming portion of the 2014 BIG EAST Championships still atop the team leaderboard after rebounding from a misstep in the 800-free relay to place third in the 200-medley relay.
Junior Ben Mitchell (Milford, Pa.) combined with teammates Eric Davidson (Overland Park, Kan.) and Alex Pfisterer (Mohnton, Pa.) to dominate the diving championships last Saturday, staking the Pirates with a substantial lead heading into Wednesday's relay action. Despite a disqualification in the 800-free relay event, The Hall will head into Thursday with 120 points, 15 ahead of second-place Georgetown.
To close the evening, the team of Keith Carlino (Hopewell Junction, N.J.), James Logan (Wallingford, Pa.), Zach DeLillo (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Tim Bosse (New Windsor, N.Y.) helped SHU get back on track by turning in a season-best time in the 200-medley.
Carlino shot out with the second-fastest opening leg of the race (23.55) and the Pirates stayed near the front for the remainder of the race, ultimately placing third with a time of 1:31.02 that was within .7 seconds of the winning mark posted by Georgetown (1:31.36).
The championships will resume tomorrow, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. from the Gloucester Institute of Technology. Events on the schedule for Thursday include the 50 and 500-yard freestyles as well as the 200-IM. The conference will also crown a 200-free relay champion in the night session.
