SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Friday could prove to be moving day for the Pirates at the 2014 BIG EAST Championships as both Seton Hall swimming & diving squads are well-positioned to make a charge up the team leaderboard on day three of the four-day meet.
The Hall ranks third in the team standings on both the men's and the women's side and will be looking to build on a pair of solid showings from day two at Gloucester Institute of Technology. Friday's program calls for five individual events as well as the 400-medley relay.
On Thursday, Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) placed second in the 200-IM to deliver what stands as the top Seton Hall performance to this point in the meet. The senior is slated to vie for her first conference championship in the 100-breaststroke on Friday, an event in which she owns the fastest time in the league this season.
Sophomore Megan Mallon (Glen Mills, Pa.) also figures to challenge for the 100-breast title, rounding out a formidable duo that ranks 1-2 in the event.
Earlier this year, Kolackovsky led off a 400-medley relay squad that earned the Seton Hall women a #1 seed, combining with Mallon, Melody Bush (Guelph, Ontario) and Tessa Lindner (Sun Prairie, Wis.) to post a league-leading time of 3:52.01 at the Patriot Invitational.
A championship contender in her own right, Bush will enter the 100-backstroke preliminaries as the #2 seed. She also ranks as the Pirates' top seed in the 200-free (9).
Fellow freshman Cece Henry (St. Charles, Mo.) placed herself right in the middle of the 400-IM championship picture with her 4:32.82 effort at the Patriot Invitational while senior Kelly Markwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) and Lindner each rank among the projected top-eight competitors in the 100-fly.
The Seton Hall men possess a similar opportunity to reach the top of the podium tonight, entering a top-eight seed into each of the individual events.
Junior James Logan (Wallingford, Pa.) helped the Pirates pick up second place points in the 200-free relay and could add a medal finish as the #2-ranked swimmer in the 100-breast. Junior Zach DeLillo (Sinking Spring, Pa.) is seeded third in the 100-fly, .31 seconds off the top mark, while sophomore Tim Bosse (New Windsor, N.Y.) comes in as one of the top-six 200-free competitors.
Freshmen Xavier Jimenez (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Keith Carlino (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) rank seventh and eighth respectively in the 100-back while sophomore Andrew William (Bayonne, N.J.) is seeded eighth in the 400-IM.
In relay action, Bosse, Carlino, DeLillo and Logan earned The Hall a #3 seed in the 400-medley race, posting a time of 3:28.07 at the Patriot Invitational.
