SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Adding another prestigious accolade to what has already been a spring filled with awards and historic milestones, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced on Monday that the Seton Hall men's and women's swimming & diving squads earned Scholar All-American honors for Fall 2013.
The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall and once in the spring.
The Seton Hall men ranked 12th in the nation, posting a 3.29 grade point average that was up nearly eight percent from the last recognition period and just .03 shy of the top-10.
On the women's side, The Hall ranked in the top-50 of all NCAA Division I programs, registering a 3.37 collective GPA. In each instance, SHU joined Xavier and Providence as the only BIG EAST institutions to meet Scholar All-America standards.
No strangers to academic success, the award is the latest in what has been a steady precession of Scholar All-America awards for the Pirates. Seton Hall has now received the honor in all 14 years under head coach Ron Farina.
The recognition of their scholastic achievement comes on the heels of a BIG EAST Championship in which the Pirates transformed the school record book with a total of seven conference titles.
Divers Ben Mitchell (Milford, Pa.) and Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) each swept a pair of championships and were named Most Outstanding Divers of the meet while Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) added a pair of gold medals of her own en route to a share of the Most Outstanding Female Swimmer Award. Junior James Logan (Wallingford, Pa.) added an individual championship for the men to round out the historic effort that nearly doubled the amount of conference titles in school history.
