SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall senior Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) was named to the 2013-14 All-BIG EAST Second Team and freshman Jaren Sina (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) garnered All-Rookie Team honors. Edwin led the Pirates in scoring for the second consecutive year and finished the regular-season ranked third in NCAA Division I in steals. Sina was one of the Pirates top long range shooters in BIG EAST play ranking 10th overall in 3-point field goal percentage. It was the first time since 2011-12 that the Pirates had two players garner BIG EAST postseason accolades.
For the second time in the last three years, Edwin led the BIG EAST in steals snatching a conference-best 74 this season, despite missing five regular-season games due to injuries. The 6-foot-6 guard broke the Seton Hall career steals record earlier this season, a mark which stood for over 30 years, and he enters the postseason with 292. Edwin also moved into seventh place on the BIG EAST career steals list (153).
Edwin averaged 15.8 points in BIG EAST play and had the 11th highest field goal percentage (.468) against conference opponents. He was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor roll a team-high six times, including three straight weeks from Jan. 20 to Feb. 3. Edwin posted 16 double-digit scoring performances in 26 appearances, went over 20-points eight times and was the Pirates high scorer on 11 occasions.
The Paterson, N.J. native enters the BIG EAST Tournament Presented by NEW YORK LIFE with 1,596 points and 598 rebounds in his four years at The Hall. Edwin is two rebounds shy of becoming only the seventh player in Seton Hall history to go over the 1,500-point and 600-rebound plateau, an elite group which also includes Pirate greats Walter Dukes (1950-53), Nick Werkman (1961-64), Ken House (1969-72), Andre McCloud (1982-86), Mark Bryant (1984-88) and Arturas Karnisovas (1990-94).
Sina is the first Pirate to garner BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honors since Jeremy Hazell in 2007-08. The 6-foot-2 freshman played major roles for The Hall splitting time at the point and off guard positions. His 75 assists were the second most on the squad, going along with a 6.2 scoring average. Sina elevated his game in BIG EAST contests where he hit 21 of his 35 threes, going 40.4 percent beyond the arc, and he boasted a 1.54 assist-to-turnover ratio.
He was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Nov. 23 after helping lead the Pirates to a victory over Virginia Tech. Sina poured in 13 points shooting 4-for-5 from 3-point range, hitting three of his triples within a 1:25 stretch to power a game-changing 14-3 run. The Lake Hopatcong, N.J. native had seven double-digit scoring performances and led the Pirates in assists seven times.
The Hall heads into the BIG EAST Tournament as the #8 seed and will square off with #9 Butler on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery have the call for FOX Sports 1 with Erin Andrews sideline reporting. The Seton Hall radio broadcast team of Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin can be heard on 970 AM WNYM.
