SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall senior Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) accepted an invitation to compete in the 2014 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament which runs from April 16-19. Established in 1953, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament welcomes 64 of the best college basketball seniors across the nation to compete before representatives of all 30 National Basketball Association (NBA) franchises as well as international scouts. Edwin will play for Roger Brown's Restaurant in the 62nd annual event that tips off on Wednesday night.
Edwin was named the 2014 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in steals for the second time in the last three seasons. The 6-foot-6, 215 pound guard became only the second player in Seton Hall history to earn the prestigious honor. Edwin ranked fifth in the nation averaging 2.66 steals per contest, going along with a 15.8 scoring average against BIG EAST competition.
The All-BIG EAST Second Team selection broke Seton Hall's career steals record (295) which stood for over 30-years. Edwin will also graduate in seventh place all time on the BIG EAST's career steals list with 153 against league opponents.
Edwin also finished his career 12th on Seton Hall's scoring list with 1,633 points and 10th with 172 three-point field goals. He is only the seventh player to come through the program who has recorded over 1,500-points and 600-rebounds, joining an elite group which includes Pirate greats Walter Dukes (1950-53), Nick Werkman (1961-64), Ken House (1969-72), Andre McCloud (1982-86), Mark Bryant (1984-88) and Arturas Karnisovas (1990-94).
In 2013-14, Edwin led the Pirates in scoring for the second straight season with 14.5 points in 29 appearances. He scored in double-digits 18 times, including nine 20+ point performances. Edwin had the 11th highest field goal shooting percentage in conference games at 46.8 percent. The Paterson, N.J. native was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll a team-high six times.
Edwin becomes the first Pirate to compete in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament since Jordan Theodore and Herb Pope in 2012. Theodore was named to the All-Tournament Team finishing as the tournament's assist leader.

History of the P.I.T.
Each year for 60 years the P.I.T has invited 64 of the best college basketball players (seniors) from across the nation to participate in a four-day, twelve game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team. The tournament drew the attention of NBA Scouts and General Managers in the mid-70's when players like Dave Cowens, John Lucas, Walt Szczerbiak and Bobby Cremins came to Portsmouth to play. Soon the word spread and approximately 200 Scouts, General Managers and Representatives of all 30 NBA teams began to come to see players like John Stockton, Dennis Rodman, Tim Hardaway, Scottie Pippen and others. Today scouts from numerous international leagues have joined in on the annual April pilgrimage to Portsmouth. Over the years the P.I.T. has been a showcase for five of the 50 greatest players in NBA History (Rick Barry, Earl 'The Pearl" Monroe, Dave Cowens, John Stockton, Scottie Pippen) and for many others who have gone on to NBA stardom.
