SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall senior Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) was named to the 2013-14 All-Metropolitan First Team for the second straight year, while classmate Eugene Teague (Vineland, N.J.) garnered Third Team honors as announced by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) on Tuesday. The formal presentation of the All-Met First & Second Team award winners will take place tonight at the 81st Annual NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner in Tarrytown, N.Y.
Edwin enjoyed a decorated senior campaign after leading the Pirates in scoring for the second straight season with 14.5 points per game. The 2014 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year also topped the conference in steals for the second time in the last three seasons, ranking fifth in the nation averaging 2.66 per contest.
An All-BIG EAST Second Team selection, Edwin boasted a 15.8 scoring average in league contests which ranked in the conference's top-10. The 6-foot-6 guard from Paterson, N.J. scored double-figures 18 times in 29 appearances, including nine 20+ point performances. Edwin was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on six occasions in 2013-14.
Edwin will graduate 12th overall on Seton Hall's career scoring list (1,633 points) and 10th in three-point field goals (172). He is only the seventh player in program history to record over 1,500-points and 600-rebounds, a list which includes Pirate greats Walter Dukes (1950-53), Nick Werkman (1961-64), Ken House (1969-72), Andre McCloud (1982-86), Mark Bryant (1984-88) and Arturas Karnisovas (1990-94).
Teague erupted for a BIG EAST leading 10 double-doubles in 2013-14, including a pair at the BIG EAST Championships which landed the 6-foot-9 center on the All-Tournament Team. He became the first Pirate to garner the recognition since Eddie Griffin in 2001. Teague averaged 14.7 points shooting 69.2 percent from the field and grabbed 9.7 rebounds per game in three BIG EAST Tournament starts.
The Vineland, N.J. native set a program record with a 62.1 field goal shooting percentage, breaking the previous mark of 61.5 percent that was held by Hank Gunter (1960-61). Teague averaged 11.2 points and scored double-figures 19 times. He ranked second in the BIG EAST with 7.9 rebounds per game and led The Hall in rebounding in 19 of 29 appearances.
Edwin and Teague helped engineer the Pirates' run to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2001. Despite an injury-plagued regular-season, The Hall made noise at Madison Square Garden earning consecutive one-point victories in the tournament over Butler and #3/#3 Villanova, which was program's first ever against a top-three nationally ranked opponent.
The selection of Edwin and Teague to All-Metropolitan Teams marks the second time in the last three seasons The Hall had a pair of honorees.
