
Pirates Begin Professional Careers

SOUTH ORANGE N.J. - Seton Hall University alumni Fuquan Edwin (Paterson, N.J.) and Eugene Teague (Vineland, N.J.) are set to begin their professional basketball careers. Edwin recently signed to play in the NBA summer league with the Oklahoma City Thunder, while Teague inked a contract with of the LNB Pro B League, one of the oldest professional basketball teams in France.
Edwin will become the latest of a long list of Pirates who have suited up for a NBA franchise when he competes for the Thunder in Orlando July 5-11. The 6-foot-6 guard from Paterson, N.J. garnered 2014 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award becoming the second player in Seton Hall history to receive the prestigious honor. He ranked fifth in the nation averaging 2.66 steals per contest and led the BIG EAST in the statistical category for the second time in the last three seasons.
The All-BIG EAST Second Team selection broke Seton Hall's steals career steals record (295), which stood for over 30-years. He completed his career at The Hall 12th overall on the program's scoring list with 1,633 points and 10th with 172 three-point field goals.
One of the top seniors in college basketball last season, Edwin was invited to compete in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational and also collected First Team All- Metropolitan honors and All District 5 Second Team recognition by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). His decorated senior campaign featured leading the Pirates in scoring for the second straight season with 14.5 points per game going along with a 15.8 scoring average in BIG EAST contests, which was in the conference's top-10.
Edwin scored in double-figures 18 times in 29 appearances, including nine 20+ point performances. He was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll six times during the regular-season.
Teague let the BIG EAST with 10 double-doubles in 2013-14, including a pair at the BIG EAST Championships which landed the 6-foot-9 center on the All-Tournament Team. He became the first Pirate to garner the recognition since Eddie Griffin in 2001. Teague averaged 14.7 points shooting 69.2 percent from the field and grabbed 9.7 rebounds per game in three BIG EAST Tournament starts.
The Vineland, N.J. native set a program record with a 62.1 field goal shooting percentage, breaking the previous mark of 61.5 percent that was held by Hank Gunter (1960-61). Teague averaged 11.2 points and scored double-figures 19 times. He ranked second in the BIG EAST with 7.9 rebounds per game and led The Hall in rebounding in 19 of 29 appearances. Teague also earned Third Team All Metropolitan honors.
