2014 ITA WOMEN'S ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS AND SCHOLAR-ATHLETES
The Seton Hall tennis team was recently recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic prowess, once again earning All-Academic Team distinction while five student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale.
The tennis squad collected its second consecutive Seton Hall Team Academic Award in the spring after leading all women's programs with a 3.561 collective GPA and has now been recognized by the ITA in each year under head coach Greg Wyzykowski.
Individual honorees included All-BIG EAST selections Hannah Liljekvist (Djursholm, Sweden) and Chloe Sher (Tin Shui Wai, Hong Kong) as well as senior Rocio Portela (Demetrio Vega Baja, Puerto Rico), Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) and Julie Martiny (Brussels, Belgium). The five award winners were the fifth-highest total among the nine BIG EAST men's and women's teams represented on the list.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
The award is yet another for the unanimous All-Conference selection Sher who after capping one of the most decorated careers in program history, became the first Seton Hall student-athlete chosen to receive the BIG EAST Michael Tranghese Postgraduate Leadership Award before adding the BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award to her collection of accolades last week.
