July 30, 2014

This past April 30th, Pirate Blue Athletic Fund held its annual Donor Matching Day. Pirate Blue reached its overarching goal of receiving donations from supporters in all 50 states in order to meet the challenge, of one generous anonymous donor who contributed $50,000 for the achievement. In total, Pirate Blue raised over $193,000 from over 450 alumni, family, and friends of the program throughout the day.
Due to the success of Donor Matching Day and the overwhelming support of Pirates fans across the country, Pirate Blue will profile some of those loyal supporters from coast to coast who helped make Donor Matching Day a success.
Pirate Blue ends the month of July speaking with Michelle (’05) and Michael Day (’03, ’05) in its "HALL Around the Nation" feature.
As former soccer players, Michelle and Michael experienced their own personal athletic achievements, but witnessed many other Pirate successes during their time at SHU.
They recently checked in with Pirate Blue from Colorado to speak about their time at the Hall and the impact of Pirate Blue on Seton Hall Athletics.
Q: Where do you currently live and what is your current occupation?
The Days: We live in Littleton, Colorado with our 3 daughters – Taryn (3) and twins Kendall and Kiersten (8 weeks). Mike is a Director of Sales at SCRAM Systems – an electronic offender monitoring company and Michelle is a stay at home mom.
Q: What year did you graduate from Seton Hall?
The Days: Mike graduated in ’03 and ’05 with his Masters, Michelle graduated in ’05.
Q: Please share one of your most memorable experiences as a Seton Hall student.
The Days: Picking one is just too hard - The 2001 men’s soccer team and their NCAA Tournament run beating #2 Virginia on their home field, the 99-00 men’s basketball team Sweet 16 run and the 03-04 men’s basketball victory over Arizona in the NCAA Tournament. The 2003 Women’s Soccer team playing two games in Colorado - Michelle’s home state - against the University of Colorado and University of Denver comes to mind as well.
Q: What are you most proud of as Seton Hall fans?
The Days: Pride & Tradition – our athletes & coaches always represent SHU in a professional manner win or lose as well as the current teams respecting those that came before them and welcoming them at athletic and university events.
Q: Why did you choose to donate to Pirate Blue?
The Days: We didn’t realize the importance of Pirate Blue and truly understand what it does to advance the athletic department, the university and each team until after graduation. As student athletes you really don’t see that side of the operation. We continue to donate to Pirate Blue because we want to give back to the university that gave so much to us.
Q: What would you say to a friend who was considering joining the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund?
The Days:Do it! There is no better way to support the Blue and White!
