ANNAPOLIS, MD. Senior Hannah Liljekvist (Djursholm, Sweden) earned her way into the A flight semifinals at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational over the weekend, highlighting a three-day span in which a shorthanded Seton Hall tennis team saw all five Pirates in singles action earn a main draw victory.
Liljekvist has now scored main draw wins in both of her appearances this fall and advanced to the final four of the top singles bracket with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Megan Hahn of Loyola (MD).
Sophomore Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) also came out on top in her opening singles match to give the Pirates two participants in the A flight quarterfinals. Strike moved on from the round of 16 after holding off a rally from Delaware's Amanda Strudnicki in a three-set affair.
Freshman Anna Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) bested another Blue Hen in Sarah Hall, scoring a 6-4, 6-3 victory to make her way into the B flight quarterfinals – her second quarterfinal appearance in as many tournaments.
Both senior Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) and sophomore Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) were in action in the C flight as Keenan was able to get past Allison Hansen of George Washington in straight sets before falling to Catalina Rico of hosts Navy while Kim topped Navy's Carlee Conway before being upended by eventual flight champion Louise Badoche (Stony Brook).
Kim and senior Isabell Klingert (Oberbalbach, Germany) nearly added a doubles victory for The Hall but came up just short against the pair of Saygi/Yang from George Mason.
The Pirates will be back in action this weekend when they host Fordham in their lone dual match of the fall. The match will be played at Seton Hall's brand new courts that sit within walking distance of the university's South Orange campus. Start-time is set for Noon.
