BUFFALO, N.Y. - Four-time BIG EAST champions and two-time reigning Most Outstanding Divers Ben Mitchell (Milford, Pa.) and Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) wrapped up yet another historic campaign on Tuesday, completing their respective programs at the NCAA Zone A Championships hosted by the University of Buffalo.
Once again the only BIG EAST representatives at the event, both Signorelli and Mitchell qualified for the regional championship from the one and three meter boards for the second-straight year.
Both Mitchell and Signorelli came on strong on the final day of competition, each finishing within 35 points of reaching the championship round.
A dual school record holder, the senior Mitchell placed 33rdout of 49 entrants with a six-dive score of 253.15 from three-meters on Tuesday while Signorelli was less than 30 points outside a top-18 finish that would have advanced her to the finals with a 215.00 mark from one meter (41st).
On the opening day of the event, Mitchell scored 204.20 in one-meter preliminary action (48th) while Signorelli earned a 209.45 from three meters (51st).
By earning their way to the regional stage once again, the tandem continued to set new precedent for an SHU diving program that has swept all four BIG EAST titles and earned 14 top-three finishes at the conference championship since last season.
Mitchell, who is on track to graduate in May, joined Signorelli as the only divers to ever capture a conference title in program history and the pair stands as two of three Pirates ever to earn four individual BIG EAST championships along with SHU Athletics Hall of Famer Jen Heider.
Their efforts conclude a year in which The Hall totaled seven individual gold medals at the BIG EAST championships for the second year in a row and saw 18 members of the program earn All-BIG EAST recognition.
