SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Following a season in which the Pirates earned a program record seven BIG EAST titles and saw 18 team members earn all-conference honors, Seton Hall swimming & diving head coach Ron Farina has announced a loaded slate for the upcoming 2015-16 season.
The challenging schedule features 11 regular season meets with seven head-to-head dates and four multi-team competitions. The four-month journey will culminate in a trip to the 2016 BIG EAST Championships which will be held at the Nassau Aquatic Center over four consecutive days beginning February 24.
The 2015-16 campaign will officially open with The Hall hosting Montclair State in a dual meet on Friday, October 16 but the first chance to see Pirates past and present converge in the pool will come on October 3 at the SHU alumni meet.
In a scheduling shift, Seton Hall will get an early crack at a pair of conference foes in Butler and Xavier - the two-time defending BIG EAST champions on the men's side - at a quad meet that will also include hosts West Virginia out of the Big 12 Conference. The four teams will compete in Morgantown from October 23-24.
The second of four regular season home dates follows the trip to WVU as The Hall will welcome Monmouth to South Orange on October 28. The Pirates will travel to take on another league opponent in Providence on October 31, closing out an eight-day period that features four competition dates.
The following weekend, both the men's and women's swimming & diving squads will take on BIG EAST rivals Georgetown and Villanova at a meet that also includes Rutgers on the women's side. The Seton Hall men swept the Hoyas and the Wildcats at the same meet last fall.
Another trip to George Mason University for the Patriot Invitational (11/19-11/21) will close a packed fall portion of the schedule that leads into an extended winter break.
As the calendar turns to 2016, both Seton Hall teams will be in the midst of a training trip to Ponce, Puerto Rico that will span a total of eight days.
Three days after returning stateside, the Pirates will return to competition with a dual meet on the road against Iona (January 8). The matchup with the Gaels kicks off a stretch of four-straight head-to-head meets for The Hall. The Rider Broncs will visit the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium on Friday, January 15 for the first of the Pirates' two home appearances in the new year.
Seton Hall will take on Marist (January 23) in Poughkeepsie before returning to host UConn the following day in a meet that will serve as Senior Day. After hitting the pool on back-to-back days, the Pirates will head to Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Invite, the final tune-up for the squads prior to the conference championship meet.
Coach Farina's group will return 15 All-BIG EAST performers from a year ago, including all six on the women's side, who will lead the push for the Pirates' first team championship. The Hall also added a total of 10 newcomers to the fold who are set to make their debuts in October.
