Capone's Four Victories Pace Pirates Past Providence

South Orange, N.J. - Freshman Clara Capone (West Hartford, Conn.) won two individual freestyle races and contributed to two more victories in relay races, leading the Seton Hall swimming & diving team to a 162-126 victory over Providence Saturday in front of a near-capacity crowd at Imperatore Natatorium. Capone was one of three Pirates to secure multiple indivdual race wins.
The Pirates improved to 5-2 on the young season and 2-1 against BIG EAST foes.
Capone helped The Hall get off on the right foot, teaming with sophomore Aitana Robinson (London, Ontario), freshman Jordan Decker (Mason, Ohio) and junior Sydney Simpson (Tallahassee, Fla.) to take the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.24. Capone anchored with the freestyle and swam it in 24.50. She then edged out teammate Courtney McCardle (Hurley, N.Y.) in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.22, just six hundredths of a second better than McCardle. After the diving break, Capone then took the 100 freestyle in 55.22, again edging out McCardle this time by five tenths of a second (55.72).
Capone finished her day in the 200 freestyle relay, teaming with McCardle, Robinson and junior Kylene Ronayne (Springfield, Pa.) to finish first with a time of 1:41.49.
Including the 200 medley relay, Simpson was a three-race victor. Individually, she scored a win in the 100 breaststroke, coming from behind to surpass teammate Decker in the final 50 with a time of 1:09.07. She then also won the 200 breaststroke just ahead of freshman Grace Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.) with a time of 2:29.51.
It was also another dominant day for freshman Sara Ouellette (Granby, Conn.), who delivered wins in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.10 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.12. She nearly had a trifecta of victories, but was edged out by Providence's Katie Fallon in the 200 freestyle.
