Delgado Garners Conference, Regional Honors

NEW YORK - After another dominating week of averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, junior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) has picked up honors both from the conference and the Metro New York region. On Monday, he was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, and on Tuesday, he was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Player of the Week.
Delgado, a preseason All-BIG EAST second team selection and the 2015 BIG EAST and Met Writers Rookie of the Year, is on a serious roll right now, notching double-doubles in five consecutive games, including the last two that earned him the recognition. Against No. 16 South Carolina on Dec. 12, he posted 13 points and 12 rebounds as the Pirates toppled the nationally ranked Gamecocks at Madison Square Garden in the Under Armour Reunion. Then against Delaware at Prudential Center on Dec. 17, he delivered 22 points, matching a career high, and 15 rebounds as the Pirates improved to 9-2 on the season with an 81-68 victory.
During his stretch of five consecutive double-doubles, Delgado is averaging 17.2 points and 12.8 boards. He is averaging 14.3 points and a BIG EAST best 11.4 rebounds for the season.
Delgado and the Pirates are 9-2 this season with Kenpom top-100 wins over Iowa, California and South Carolina. They will host Rutgers in the Garden State Hardwood Classic Friday night at Prudential Center at 6:30 p.m., live on FS1, FOX Sports GO, AM970 The Answer and the Pirate Sports Network.Â
