Pirates Best Butler for Ninth Win of Spring

CINCINNATI, OHIO - Four singles wins for the Pirates against Butler helped the Seton Hall tennis team secure its ninth victory of the season on Saturday in Cincinnati as The Hall got past the Bulldogs, 4-1 in the penultimate match of the regular season.
Seton Hall (9-9, 3-4 BIG EAST) has now claimed two consecutive conference victories while surrendering just a single point after upending Providence, 6-1, on the road last weekend.
Sophomore Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) led an SHU sweep of all four singles matches to reach completion, besting Rachel Sutton (6-1, 6-2) from the top spot to score her 11th victory of the spring, all of which have come at No. 1.
Freshman Anna Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) added her seventh triumph of 2016 and her fourth in the last six outings with a straight-set take down of Kailey Eaton (7-5, 6-0) in third singles action.
At No. 4, senior Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) notched her 12th win of the spring, extending her individual winning streak by getting past Jocelyn Koester, 6-1, 6-0. Keenan has now recorded four wins against BIG EAST opponents to this point year.
Another senior in Isabell Klingert (Oberbalbach, Germany) sealed the team result with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 performance against Michelle McFerran in fifth singles. The team leader in wins last season, Klingert has added nine more victories in her final campaign.
Butler claimed the doubles point but nor without Fajnorova and fellow newcomer Thandy Kangwa (Fort Myers, Fla.) combining for a 6-3 win over McFerran and Jordan Minnick at No. 3.
The Pirates will wrap up the regular season Sunday, April 24 against Xavier. Start time is set for 9:00 a.m.
