AD Newsletter - March 2017
BIG EAST Tournament Time!
The calendar has shifted to March, and that brings the most exciting time of the year! March Madness starts now with the BIG EAST Tournament both for our men's and women's basketball teams, and it's a new opportunity for both teams to leave their mark and win a championship. The beauty of March is that anything can happen!

The women will compete in Milwaukee beginning Saturday, facing Providence at 7:30 p.m., Eastern. You can tune in to the game on the BIG EAST Digital Network or listen on WSOU 89.5 FM. Full information on the tournament is available at BIG EAST Championship Tournament Central.

The men's team is the defending tournament champion and will be back at Madison Square Garden to defend the crown beginning next Thursday on FS1 and AM970 The Answer. The team still has one more regular season game to play - Saturday at Butler - so be sure to get the latest information on tournament seeding at SHUPirates.com or BIG EAST Championship Tournament Central following the weekend action.
Tournament time also means it's time for our annual Pirate Blue BIG EAST Tournament events. I hope you can join Coach Willard and me at the Pirate Blue fundraiser at Grand Havana Room this Tuesday, March 7 from 6-8:30 p.m. A minimum donation of $500 is required, and food and beverages will be provided.
This exclusive event has limited space, so be sure to secure your spot by calling or emailing Jay Judge at 973-275-2202 or jay.judge@shu.edu.
Pirate Blue will also host a pregame reception at Hudson Station Bar & Grill on Thursday. Details on the reception are forthcoming, and you should visit PirateBlue.com over the weekend for registration information.

Congratulations to Men's Swimming & Diving - 2017 BIG EAST Champions
![]()
One of the great feelings in life is accomplishing a goal you've set for yourself, especially a goal that requires a lot of hard work and effort over a long period of time. Our men's swimming & diving team came into season knowing that it was capable of competing for the BIG EAST Championship. The student-athletes were prepared to work hard, and after five months of competing, the results proved favorable: our men won the program's first BIG EAST Championship in dominating fashion, nearly 150 points better than runner-up Georgetown.
Although they did not win, our women also deserve to be recognized for finishing third at the championship, a new high for the program. They were sitting in fourth with one day to go in the meet but had a tremendous final evening to surpass Xavier. With many of the top finishes coming from the freshman class, it's clear that the program's future is bright.
Please join me in congratulating our student-athletes and coaching staff for their amazing efforts!

Sixth Annual Leadership Forum for Student-Athletes
![]()
One of our goals as a staff here at Seton Hall is to ensure that our student-athletes are ready to face the world after graduation. A big component of our effort is our Patrick M. and Mary Ann Pfaff Murray Leadership Forum for Student-Athletes, now in its sixth year.
The Leadership Forum, a signature H.A.L.L. Program event, gives our student-athletes an opportunity to network and have a career-oriented discussion with distinguished professionals who have become leaders in their respective fields. We had a tremendous trio of guest panelists this year: Milton Anderson, chief administrative officer and executive vice president for RWJ Barnabas Health, Mary Ann Christopher MSN, RN FAAN, vice president of clinical operations & transformation at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, and Hugh Weber, president of the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center.
I'd like to thank Milton, Mary Ann and Hugh, as well as our moderator Glenn Horine, for giving us their time to help educate our student-athletes on best practices towards becoming successful in the working world.
You can find more information about the Leadership Forum and watch the recap video by clicking here.
Spring Sports are in Full Swing
![]()
Although the weather is fluctuating between cold and warm here in the Northeast, our spring sports are competing and flourishing so far! All five teams will be heading either south or west during spring break next week to continue getting better in preparation for spring championships.
Our men's golf team kicked off its spring season with a runner-up finish at the Yestingsmeier Match Play tournament, and our three-time defending BIG EAST champion women's golf team competed in Arizona at the Rio Verde Invitational.
The baseball team has already picked up big wins over Michigan and San Diego State, and our softball team earned two wins over ACC programs last weekend, defeating Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The tennis program has earned four wins in seven matches so far this spring, including a nice win over Army West Point, a team that it lost to last season.
Be sure to stay up to date with the spring teams by visiting SHUPirates.com or downloading the SHU Pirates Mobile App!
