September 2017
We are in the full swing of our fall sports and basketball season is only eight weeks away. It's a great time to be a Pirate!
Our men's soccer team has won three of its last four matches, and is preparing to open BIG EAST conference play this Saturday against St. John's. The weather's expected to be pleasant, so I hope you'll make it over to Owen T. Carroll Field and support the team!
Our men's and women's cross country teams are both off to strong starts. The women are coming off a team victory at Stony Brook last weekend, and both the men and women have had individual meet champions. They're ready to kick it into gear, and championship season is less than a month away!
Our volleyball program is 6-4 in non-conference play so far with big wins over Oklahoma, Cincinnati and Illinois State. After one more non-conference weekend, BIG EAST matches begin. Be sure to support the team when it returns home on Sept. 29 against league favorite Creighton.
Our women's soccer team has played five of its first six matches away from home, so Sunday will be a blessing for the Pirates who will host Harvard at Owen T. Carroll Field. The team needs your support as it winds down the non-conference schedule and gets ready for BIG EAST play, which begins Sept. 23.
Be sure to support the Pirates all season long and you can get the latest information on SHUPirates.com.

Men's Basketball Schedule Has Been Set
Â

Â
This week, our men's basketball schedule was finalized after the BIG EAST announced its league slate. We are excited for our fans; not only do we have 16 games at Prudential Center, but we are also playing one game on campus at Walsh Gym, two games at Madison Square Garden, two at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, one at Rutgers and one in Philadelphia. That's 23 games within driving distance, making it very easy for all Pirates fans to attend. Plus, only one of our 17 home games will start after 7 p.m., and we have 10 of them occurring on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Â
With this type of schedule and with a consensus preseason top 25 team hungry for success, we hope that you'll join us for as many of these games as possible. The best way to enjoy Seton Hall basketball is to purchase season tickets, which start at just $168 per seat. Mini-plans are also available, in which you can get six games for the price of five. Season tickets, mini-plans and prepaid parking passes can be purchased online right now.

Â
Just today, our 2017-18 women's basketball schedule has been completed, after the BIG EAST made its league calendar public. The Pirates will play 17 games at Walsh Gym this season, including a big showdown with preseason nationally ranked UCLA on Dec. 17 and conference rivals Villanova on Jan. 12, St. John's on Jan. 21 and DePaul to close the regular season on Feb. 25.
Â
There may not be a better deal in college sports than our women's basketball season ticket package. For the 17 home games, season tickets are just $50 per seat. And with 14 of the 17 games occurring on a weekend and 10 of the games starting in the afternoon, our women's basketball games are fun and convenient for the whole family.
Â
Season tickets are available online now, and we hope to see you pack Walsh for what should be a fun year!

Â
Now that our 2017-18 basketball schedules are complete, it's time to turn our attention to the preseason event of the year – the ninth annual Beefsteak Tip-Off Dinner, which serves as the opportunity to meet our men's and women's basketball teams. The date is Thursday, October 19, and registration has been robust so far! We're expecting a sell-out, so be sure to register today for what will be a wonderful evening.
Â
Even if you cannot make it on October 19, you can impact our student-athletes by participating in the silent auction, which will feature some terrific memorabilia items, or by sponsoring the dinner.

A Visit From a Vatican Official
![]()
Â
Last Friday, some of our student-athletes were treated to a special meeting with a special guest. Santiago Pérez de Camino Gaisse, the head of The Vatican's Office for Church & Sport, traveled from Rome to come visit Seton Hall to learn more about how our student-athletes are involved with Varsity Catholic, a division of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS).
Â
In attendance for the meeting with Mr. Gaisse were men's soccer's Corey and Spencer Burkhardt and Peyton Elder, baseball's Blake Espinal and Noah Thompson, women's cross country's Kiley Britten and former volleyball athlete Brooke Flores. They talked to him about how they got involved with Varsity Catholic, how bible study helps enhance their faith, the types of activities and programming they participate in and how they have bonded with their missionaries.
Â
We're very honored to have hosted Mr. Gaisse on our campus, and we are appreciative of all the guidance and help our Varsity Catholic missionaries have been able to provide our student-athletes as they intertwine their faith with their daily activities.
