Cayce, S.C. – The Seton Hall women's tennis team battled point-for-point with Xavier on Friday afternoon, but ultimately suffered a 4-1 defeat in the BIG EAST Championship quarterfinal at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

After dropping the top doubles flight, the Pirates battled back with a 7-5 victory from sophomores Melody Taal (Ede, Netherlands) and Michal Matson (St. Albans, New Zealand) at No. 3. Senior Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) and junior Thandy Kangwa (Ft. Myers, Fla.) then fell just short, as Xavier clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the No. 2 flight.

Senior Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 singles position. However, the Musketeers took each of the next four singles matchups to seal the victory.
