AD Newsletter with Pat Lyons - April 2018
4/5/2018 3:03:00 PM | AD Newsletter with Bryan Felt
I hope that you had a wonderful Easter weekend and had the opportunity to spend it with loved ones. Though the weather has not been cooperating, it is springtime and spring always brings hope. This month, we hope that our spring sports flourish in competition; we hope that you will join us for some great events we are holding; and we hope that you will miss basketball season as much as we will and are already counting down the days until we tip off again!
Please Congratulate Our Hall of Fame Class of 2018

We are proud to announce our Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018, which will be enshrined on Wednesday, June 6 at Maplewood Country Club. We have a terrific group of five honorees all incredibly deserving of this honor.
Keisha Caine is one of the greatest athletes in our school's history. She was an eight-time All-American, a member of two 4x400 relay teams that won national championships and was a part of two BIG EAST Championship winning teams. She was the 1995 BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Performer.
Tommy Houston was an All-American midfielder at Seton Hall and three-time All-BIG EAST performer. His sophomore season ranks as one of the best in school history with 12 goals and nine assists, including a streak of seven straight matches with a goal scored.
Kyle Morris ranks in the top five of our men's golf team's record book in almost every individual category, including most tournament victories, most sub-par tournaments, most sub-par rounds, stroke average and most top-five and top-ten finishes.
Stacey Nagle is one of the best goalkeepers in our women's soccer team's history and was a part of the best season in program history in 1997 when the Pirates won 14 matches. She recorded 7-1/2 shutouts during that magical season and is the program's career leader in clean sheets with 25-1/2.
Phyllis Sheppard is synonymous with Seton Hall baseball, and for over 50 years, she has been a positive influence on hundreds of student-athletes that have come through Seton Hall. She has supported Seton Hall Athletics through her volunteer work and as well as her philanthropy to the department. The matriarch of Seton Hall baseball, she is the wonderful wife to Mike Sheppard, Sr., who led our Pirates from 1973-2003, and mother to Rob, our current head coach. Though the record book does not credit her, you can easily say that the 1,395 wins Seton Hall baseball has accumulated since 1973 have her imprint on them.
Please join me in congratulating Keisha, Tommy, Kyle, Stacey and Phyllis on this achievement, and we hope you can join us in celebrating when we enshrine them on June 6. Registration information will be forthcoming on PirateBlue.com and I'll be sure to mention in it in this space again next month.
Congratulations to Men's Basketball on a Great Season!

When the dust settled in late March, our men's basketball team produced a 22-12 campaign, finished with a winning BIG EAST record, ranked in the top 35 of all the metrics and won the program's first NCAA Tournament game in 14 years.
Congratulations to our 15 student-athletes and to Coach Willard and his staff for another outstanding year. And a special congratulations to our four graduating seniors who have meant so much to this program and its fans.
We all have one more chance to thank the seniors and congratulate the team on a great season at a special men's basketball year-end reception that the team is holding on Monday, April 23 at Maplewood Country Club at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $200 per person and includes open bar, food stations and dessert tables. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate another wonderful season. Contact Michael Engemann to register for the evening: 973-275-6445 or michael.engemann@shu.edu.
In addition, April means it's 30-for-30 month, and we reward our loyal season ticket holders for renewing early with prize giveaways every day of the month. The 2018-19 season will be another exciting one for Pirate Nation and we can't stress enough how much your support in the stands means to our student-athletes. Renew today!
Women's Basketball Earns Postseason Bid, Bright Future Ahead

With its at-large selection into the WNIT, our women's basketball team earned its fourth postseason bid in five years under Coach Bozzella. These include NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016 and WNIT appearances in 2014 and this season. To put that in perspective, since the NCAA Tournament began in 1982 and the WNIT began in 1998, our women's basketball program only received five national postseason bids (NCAA 1994 & 1995; WNIT 2003, 2004 & 2007) prior to Coach Bozzella's arrival.
With four starters and five of the team's top six scorers returning, the future is bright for the women's basketball program and we expect to compete for a fifth postseason bid in six years. We hope that you'll continue to support the Pirates, especially at home games at Walsh Gym. Ticket information will be forthcoming in the fall.
Donor Matching Day Will Be Tuesday April 24

Your support is paramount to helping our student-athletes achieve success on and off the field, and it is on days like Donor Matching Day that you can really make a difference in the lives of our Pirates student-athletes. This year's Donor Matching Day will take place on Tuesday, April 24, and once again, Coach Willard will match every gift we receive on this day by 30 percent.
Last year we raised just under $200,000 and we hope to eclipse that figure this year. Any gift will help the cause so please consider making the gift on April 24. We will communicate a dedicated webpage to Donor Matching Day in the coming days.
Join Us for Corks & Forks Thursday April 26

Pirate Blue's fourth annual Corks & Forks event, hosted by James and Judy O'Brien, is only three weeks away, Thursday, April 26 at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield. It will be a terrific evening of wine tasting, dinner and mingling with fellow Pirates fans. The proceeds of the event go to the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund and help support the lives of our student-athletes. You can register for this fun event online now.
Good luck to Men's & Women's Golf and Women's Tennis at the BIG EAST Championship

April begins the push for spring conference championships and we will have three teams competing for BIG EAST titles late this month.
Our women's golf team, winners of the conference championship for three straight years from 2014-16, will have its tournament run April 20-22 at Callawassie Island in South Carolina, near Hilton Head Island. Coach Desjardins and her Pirates have had a strong spring so far and currently are the second-ranked team in the BIG EAST behind only Georgetown, according to Golfstat. We fully expect to be in contention on the final day! Be sure to follow along using the BIG EAST Digital Network and the Seton Hall women's golf Twitter page @SHUWGolf.
Our women's tennis team will compete for the BIG EAST title April 25-29 in Cayce, South Carolina, just outside the state capital of Columbia. Last season, our women took a big step in winning the program's first tournament match in over 10 years. Now with the same core of student-athletes, Coach McGlynn and the Pirates will try to advance further. Be sure to follow along on the BIG EAST Digital Network and on the Seton Hall women's tennis Twitter page@SHU_Tennis.
Our men's golf team will take its crack at the BIG EAST Championship from April 29-May 1 also on Callawassie Island. The Pirates were one stroke short of a championship victory last season and are poised to build upon that result and challenge for the title once more. With a strong veteran presence as well as some outstanding freshman performances, Coach White and his group will be ready. They are currently ranked third in the BIG EAST behind Marquette and Georgetown, according to Golfstat. Follow the tournament on the BIG EAST Digital Network and the Seton Hall men's golf Twitter page @SHUMGolf.
