AD Newsletter – May 2018
The weather has finally turned, spring has arrived and we are headed down the stretch in the 2017-18 season. Commencement is only 11 days away, and while it is bittersweet to say farewell to our graduates, we also are incredibly proud to send them off with their degrees ready to contribute to a new community. With that being said though, there is a ton of work to do to prepare our returning student-athletes and all our newcomers for another special year in 2018-19!
Congratulations to Our Graduating Seniors!

Last evening, we celebrated our seventh annual Pirate Blue Senior Reception, an evening where we get our seniors together one final time before commencement to honor and reflect on four amazing years. Our senior class of 2018 not only has achieved great things in the field of competition, but also has excelled in the classroom and the community. More than half of our 2018 graduates received the Seton Hall Academic Merit Award for maintaining a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher!
We are so very proud of all of the accomplishments our seniors have made, and we are excited to see what path they are headed on in their future. We know that some of them are pursuing playing their sport professionally; some have lined up positions to enter the workforce; and others are opting to continue their education at the graduate level. No matter what they choose to do after graduation, Seton Hall will always be their home.
Congratulations to all our seniors on reaching this momentous milestone in their lives, and special congratulations to our 2018 senior award winners – Angel Delgado, the Senior Male Athlete of the Year, Sydney Simpson and Alexis Walkden, the Senior Female Co-Athletes of the Year, and Jeff Larson, the Senior Most Valuable Pirate.
Thank You for Your Generous Support on Donor Matching Day

Our success as a department cannot be possible with the support of our Pirate Blue members. And once again I am proud, humbled and thankful of the support Pirate Blue Nation delivered on Donor Matching Day, which was in conjunction with Seton Hall University's first-ever Giving Day. This year, Pirate Blue raised over $175,000 in support of student-athletes, which included the successful completion of the 50-state challenge that unlocked the $50,000 anonymous donor gift.
It is especially exciting to see that our former student-athletes are dedicated to helping make things even better for future generations. Joey is a 2015 graduate of Seton Hall and the swimming & diving team and keeps a close relationship with his teammates and the department while flourishing in the world of visual design.
Again, thank you to all our Donor Matching Day participants and thank you to everyone who has at one time or another made a gift to Pirate Blue in support of our student-athletes. We hope that you will continue make an impact in their lives.
Congratulations to Our 2018 SHUCademy Award Winners

Last night, we celebrated our seniors, but last month, we held our annual SHUCademy Awards that honors all the great achievements of our entire student-athlete body. It was a fun event for all that included lip sync videos, coach impressions, some interesting dance moves, and a lot of great awards for a job well done.
Congratulations to all our award winners, and I'd like to give a special thanks to Cassie Pantelas and Macky Fouse of the women's golf team for serving as the hosts for the evening. It was the first time student-athletes emceed the show, and they did an outstanding job!
You can read about all the award winners and access the videos and photo gallery online now.
Baseball Plays for First Place This Weekend

Take a look at the BIG EAST baseball standings. The top two teams by a decent margin (three games) are St. John's and Seton Hall. Those two teams are now set to square off in a three-game series right here at Owen T. Carroll Field this weekend, which also serves as the final home weekend for our team this season.
The baseball team has been red hot, winning 15 of its last 19 games, and has already clinched its place in the BIG EAST Tournament later this month. This weekend is an opportunity now for the Pirates to position themselves for a shot at the regular season championship. Coach Sheppard and his Pirates need your support at home!
The series begins Friday with a single game at 4:30 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 1:30 p.m. All students who attend Friday can receive free food courtesy of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Then on Saturday, there will be $1 hot dogs, popcorn and sodas available for purchase.
We hope you can stop by and support the Pirates as they gear up for a postseason run!
Join us for the Hall of Fame Enshrinement June 6

Last month, we announced our Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018, and the enshrinement ceremony is now less than a month away – Wednesday, June 6 at Maplewood Country Club.
We really hope that you can make it to this wonderful evening and celebrate with our Hall of Fame Class – Keisha Caine (Women's Track & Field), Tommy Houston (Men's Soccer), Kyle Morris (Men's Golf), Stacey Nagle (Women's Soccer) and Phyllis Sheppard (Honorary). This is a tremendous group of individuals with many great stories to share, and we look forward to immortalizing them alongside so many great contributors to Seton Hall Athletics.
