Our Academic Success Once Again Reaches a New Milestone

Sometimes, the numbers can just speak for themselves. Our student-athlete department-wide cumulative grade point average after the Spring 2018 semester is at an all-time high 3.405!
This remarkable number is the result of the hard work of our student-athletes, who make the time and effort to learn and study alongside their athletic responsibilities. Congratulations to all our student-athletes for their efforts and congratulations to our academic support staff, coaches and administrators on their work behind the scenes to ensure academic success is a priority.
Read more about our end-of-year success, including the impressive number of Dean's List student-athletes we had this spring, in this release on SHUPirates.com.
Congratulations to Our New Seton Hall Graduates!

All the academic success and the hard work our student-athletes put in both in the classroom and on the field for four years culminates in one unforgettable day. On May 21, our graduating Pirates celebrated commencement at Prudential Center, and, we as college athletics administrators have no prouder moment than seeing our student-athletes accomplishing their goals and earning the reward at the end of a long journey.
Our graduates are now off on the next chapter of their lives, but no matter what, Seton Hall will always be there for them.

Congratulations to Our Hall of Fame Class of 2018!

Last night at Maplewood Country Club was a special evening as we inducted our Hall of Fame Class of 2018, which featured five distinguished and accomplished individuals who have meant so much to Seton Hall Athletics.
All of our inductees gave terrific speeches, and there was one line in particular from Stacey Nagle, our women's soccer inductee, that embodies why these Hall of Fame induction ceremonies are important and one to cherish. She told her audience, "When I think about my time at Seton Hall, they honestly and truly were some of the best four years of my life."
Stacey is now nearly 20 years removed from her time here at Seton Hall, and yet she still holds her time here in high regard. When we talk about providing the best possible experience to our student-athletes, we hope that each and every one of them can look back on their time here as fondly as Stacey.
And Stacey was not alone; Keisha Caine, Tommy Houston and Kyle Morris all also spoke about how much they loved their time here competing on the field, learning in the classroom and bonding with their teammates. Last night, they were all able to reconnect with their coaches and teammates, swap stories and harken back to a special time in their lives. That's what these Hall of Fame evenings are all about.
Congratulations again to Keisha, Tommy, Kyle, Stacey and our honorary inductee, the wonderful Phyllis Sheppard, on their enshrinement into our Hall of Fame. Please enjoy the sights and sounds video online and be sure to re-visit the page tomorrow for a photo gallery and full interviews with the inductees.
Congratulations to Baseball and Its MLB Draftees

I'd like to make special mention of our baseball team, led by head coach Rob Sheppard, on an outstanding 2018 season. The Pirates finished the year with 30 wins, a milestone they've now reached seven times in the last 11 seasons. The team finished second in the BIG EAST with a 13-4 record and then was the runner-up at the tournament championship, pushing league champion St. John's to the limit. It was a terrific run by our student-athletes, and if I know them, they already can't wait to do it all again next season and once again be in position to win the conference title Memorial Day weekend.
In addition, please join me in congratulating the program's five MLB Draft selections, Billy Layne Jr. (11th round, Texas), Andrew Politi (15th round, Boston), Shane McCarthy (18th round, Cleveland), Ryan Ramiz (23rd round, Seattle) and Cullen Dana (30th round, San Diego)! We can't wait to watch our Pirates compete professionally and one day join the ranks of elite Seton Hall alumni who have made it to the Major Leagues. You can read more about their selections on our website.
Help Support Student-Athletes at the End of the Fiscal Year

June 30 represents the end of the 2017-18 Pirate Blue fiscal year, and we hope that you will consider making a gift to help support our student-athletes. As you have been reading throughout this newsletter, you know that our student-athletes are doing big things here at Seton Hall and are poised to continue their successes on and off the field. None of that would be possible without the support that you as Pirate Blue members provide so that we can continue giving them the tools and resources they need to flourish.
Any amount that you can give to support Seton Hall student-athletes is greatly appreciated. You can always make your gift online or give a call to the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund office at (973) 275-6447 during normal business hours.
Hope to See You at the Pirate Blue Golf Outing!

Our next Pirate Blue event takes place in two months: our annual Pirate Blue Golf Outing at Navesink Country Club in Middletown, N.J., on Monday, Aug. 6. If you are a golfer and a Seton Hall supporter, this great day is definitely for you. We will tee off in the early afternoon and then have a dinner and silent auction in the evening.
You can register online today, and I hope to see you at Navesink!
