July 2018
Â
The summer may be in full swing, but all we can think about here at Seton Hall Athletics is getting the fall season underway. And it's a lot closer than you think. Our women's soccer program's report date is Tuesday, July 31, only 19 days away! Then comes men's soccer and volleyball on Aug. 7 and men's & women's cross country on Aug. 15.
Â
We are very excited to welcome back our student-athletes, and we hope you'll be ready to support them. Our first home match of the 2018-19 season is Sunday, Aug. 19 when women's soccer hosts Delaware!
Â
Â
Pirates in the Pros!
Â

Â
The last few weeks have been spectacular for watching our former student-athletes performing professionally!
Â
There are a slew of former baseball Pirates currently competing in minor league baseball, and here's an update on a few of them:

Four of our men's basketball alumni were invited to participate in the NBA Summer League, and in particular, Angel Delgado and Desi Rodriguez stood out in their performances for the LA Clippers. Angel, who had a double-double yesterday, has signed a two-way contract with the Clippers, which means he will spend most of the season with the organization's G League affiliate, the Agua Caliente Clippers, but he could spend up to 45 days playing for the NBA's Clippers, so he should get a great opportunity to showcase his skills.
Â
These are exciting times for our Pro Pirates, so be sure to follow along as their careers continue to progress.
Â
Â
Men's Basketball Schedule is Coming Together
Â

Â
Our 2018-19 men's basketball non-conference schedule is coming together nicely. As we saw last year, playing a challenging schedule early on both sets our program up for success in the BIG EAST and puts the team in position to have high metrics come time for NCAA Tournament selection.
Â
So far we've confirmed home games against Wagner, Saint Louis, Louisville and Rutgers, a Gavitt Games matchup at Nebraska, the Citi Hoops Classic against Kentucky at Madison Square Garden and three games at the Wooden Legacy, starting with Grand Canyon on Thanksgiving night. Five of those seven games are against teams that went to national postseason last year and four are against teams that were in the KenPom top 125.
Â
Of course to help our student-athletes win these games, we need your support! Our ticket office is accepting season ticket deposits for the 2018-19 season, and season ticket holders receive the best value for their investment. So please consider locking in your seats for what should be another fun season at Prudential Center!

Lizzie Win Competing in LPGA Event Today
Â

Â
Lizzie Win, one of our top women's golfers and a two-time All-BIG EAST selection, is getting a terrific opportunity this week. On Monday, she received an invitation to compete in the LPGA's Marathon Classic, which is being contested in Lizzie's hometown of Sylvania, Ohio.
Â
The tournament will even have extra special meaning for Lizzie; her family has served as a host for LPGA tour member Brittany Lincicome when she participates in the Marathon Classic for over a decade. Now Lizzie and Brittany will be competitors in the same tournament.
Â
We're very excited and happy for Lizzie as she gets to have this incredible experience this weekend. You can watch her progress using the live leaderboard.
Â
Less Than a Month Until Our Pirate Blue Golf Outing
Â

Â
We are now only 25 days away our annual Pirate Blue Golf Outing at Navesink Country Club in Middletown, N.J. Navesink is a gem of a golf course down on the Jersey Shore, and we hope you can join us for a fun day of golf followed by a dinner and silent auction.
Â
The foursomes have been coming in fast and furious, so if you'd like to join us at Navesink on Aug. 6, you should register online today!
Â
Â
Coming Soon: The Pirates Refueling Station
Â

Â
As we always say here at Seton Hall Athletics, we strive to give our student-athletes the best possible experience and set them up for success both while here in school and once they graduate into the professional world. We are proud that we are taking another step with the introduction of the Pirates Refueling Station.
Â
Set to open next month, the Pirate Refueling Station will offer our student-athletes the ability to replenish before and after their workouts with a variety of healthy snack and beverage offerings.
Â
Think about this: in addition to their academic workload, student-athletes can spend up to 2-3 hours a day training and burning a significant amount of calories. The proper nutrition can only help them further maximize their potential.
Â
We look forward to opening our new space on Aug. 20, and we'll be sure to share photos of the finished product on our social media channels and on SHUPirates.com.

Pirates in the Pros!
Â
Â
The last few weeks have been spectacular for watching our former student-athletes performing professionally!
Â
There are a slew of former baseball Pirates currently competing in minor league baseball, and here's an update on a few of them:
- Jose Lopez is currently pitching in Triple-A in the Cincinnati Reds system and in his last two starts, he's allowed just two earned runs in a combined 13 innings. He's on the Reds 40-man roster, so his call-up to the big leagues could come this season!
- Shane McCarthy has started his pro career with eight strikeouts and only one run allowed in seven innings pitching in the Arizona Rookie League for the Cleveland Indians.
- Andrew Politi, who was racking up a ton of strikeouts for the Pirates this season, is continuing to do so for the Red Sox Short Season-A team, generating 14 in his first nine innings pitched.
- Ryan Ramiz, who always showed patience at the plate, has a .400 on-base percentage playing in the Arizona Rookie League for the Seattle Mariners.
- Matt Leon, who walked on to the Pirates baseball team as a freshman, pitched 10-2/3 innings of shutout baseball to start his pro career after signing a free agent contract with the LA Angels.
Four of our men's basketball alumni were invited to participate in the NBA Summer League, and in particular, Angel Delgado and Desi Rodriguez stood out in their performances for the LA Clippers.
