
Fajnorova Named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week

NEW YORK – Senior Anicka Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) has been named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday evening by the league office.
Fajnorova collected a 6-0 record at No. 1 singles and doubles during the Pirates' three sweeps against Butler, Providence and Fairleigh Dickinson. She started off with a doubles win with freshman Regina Pitts (Los Angeles, Calif.) over the Wildcats Emily Neal and Sarah Linn, 6-2, at No. 1. She won the tiebreaker over Neal at the top spot in singles, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 (5).
On the No. 1 doubles court, Fajnorova and Pitts combined to defeat Friars Risa Takenaka and Aidan Epstein, 6-1. She also beat Takenaka in the top singles spot, dropping only one game, 6-1, 6-0. Her winning streak stayed alive with victories at No. 1 doubles and singles. She and Pitts defeated FDU's Aleksandra Vorozheikina and Marta Ruszczynska, 6-3, and she topped Ruszczynska, 6-3, 6-2 in singles.
Up next, Seton Hall hosts reigning BIG EAST Champion St. John's on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, the Pirates will celebrate their two seniors ahead of a 5 p.m. match with Sacred Heart. Both matches will be played at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness Center in New Providence. Seton Hall then hosts Villanova on Monday, April 1 at 3 p.m. on campus at Ivy Hill Tennis Courts.
