
Pirates Open Up Spring Season with Impressive Win over Fairfield

Fairfield, Conn. - The Pirates had an impressive start to the 2020 season picking up a victory over the Fairfield Stags, 177-64. Overall, the Pirates touched the wall first in all 13 events on Sunday.
Senior Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) took first in both the 200 IM and 400 Free. Gibson swam a time of 2:08.78 in the medley and followed that victory up with a time of 4:08.56 in the 400 Free.
Continuing the Pirates' success in the freestyle events was sophomore Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) who picked up victories in both the 100 Free and 200 Free. LaClair touched the wall in 52.46 in the 100 and 1:54.64 in the 200.
Freshman Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.) continued his strong start to his collegiate career taking first in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:07.05. Pantano also swam the first leg of the first place 200 medley relay team.
In diving, senior Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) picked up first place finishes in both the 1 and 3 mtr diving events. Lynch took home scores of 215.40 in the 1 mtr and 215.85 in the 3 mtr.
Overall, 11 different Pirates took a share of first in their event.Â
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, January when they take on Delaware at home at 1 p.m. The meet will also serve as Senior Day for the Pirates.
