
Pirates Sweep Binghamton to Open Spring Season

West Point, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team rolled in its spring season opener, sweeping Binghamton, 4-0, Saturday night at Lichtenberg Tennis Center on the Army West Point campus.Â
The Pirates got off to a great start, taking the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 2 by the combo of senior Minja Gligic (Belgrade, Serbia) and freshman Hiba El Khalifi (Casablanca, Morocco) and at No. 3 by seniors Michal Matson (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Anniek Jansen (Naarden, Netherlands).
Then Seton Hall picked up straight-set victories at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 3 singles to earn the match victory. Freshman Aina Plana Ventosa (Barcelona, Spain) got the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Binghamton's Ashley Granieri. Then El Khalifi posted her win at No. 5, allowing Lara Kaplan to only win two games across the two sets. Matson secured Seton Hall's win at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jamie Lau.
The Pirates were also leading at No. 1 and No. 6 singles at the time Matson completed her win.
Seton Hall has a quick turnaround as it will face Georgetown Sunday morning back at Lichtenberg Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
