INDIANAPOLIS -Â Six Seton Hall University Athletics varsity programs have received public recognition from the NCAA for posting a multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) in top 10 percent of their respective sports, the NCAA announced Tuesday as part of its NCAA Div. I Academic Performance Program. Seton Hall's baseball, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, women's swimming & diving and volleyball programs all received the honor. Seton Hall now has 54 public recognition awards since the program was implemented 15 years ago.
For women's golf, this is the eighth consecutive year that the program has received the public recognition award, an exceptional feat considering it has only been in existence for 10 years. This is the seventh straight public recognition for the baseball team. Women's cross country has now earned six consecutive public recognitions. Men's golf earned its third straight recognition and its eighth overall. Women's swimming & diving now has three straight public recognitions. Volleyball earns its first award since 2014 and sixth overall.
Baseball was one of only 30 Div. I teams and women's swimming & diving was one of only 49 Div. I teams to be recognized in its respective sport.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 19. APRs released this year will be based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
A leader among its peers in academic success, Seton Hall's excellence in the classroom is evidenced by the department's commitment to resources and the student-athletes' commitment to placing a high value on their education. Seton Hall supports its student-athletes with outstanding mentoring and tutoring, led by the Academic Support Services staff, and offers its student-athletes a state-of-the-art learning environment in the Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence, which consists of a main study area, group meeting spaces and private tutoring rooms.
