NEW YORK - Seton Hall student-athletes posted incredible grades in 2019-20, and the BIG EAST Conference has recognized the success by placing 229 Pirates on its All-Academic team for recording a grade point average of 3.0 and above, the league announced Monday. This number represents 88 percent of the Seton Hall student-athlete population.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 10 member and six affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee.
Student-athlete academic success at Seton Hall is at an all-time high with the department currently boasting a record-high cumulative GPA of 3.464. Student-athletes combined to deliver a 3.508 GPA during the 2019-20 academic year and a 3.593 GPA in the Spring 2020 semester alone. All 14 varsity programs concluded 2019-20 with cumulative, year and semester GPAs above 3.0, and 157 student-athletes made the Spring 2020 Seton Hall Dean's List for having a GPA of 3.4 or higher.
