
Freshmen Highlight Pirate Setback at Rider

Sean Vizzard claims two titles in his first collegiate meet. Freshmen Gustavsson, Murtha also shine.
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Freshman Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) picked up victories in both the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle in his first collegiate meet, but the Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team fell to Rider in the season-opening dual meet, 169-129, on Saturday.

The Pirates won seven events on the day, including Vizzard's victories in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle. The Pirate newcomer won the 500 in 4:44.70 and the 1000 in 9:40.80.

Other individual race winners included fellow freshman Julius Gustavsson, who took the title of the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.94.Â

Junior Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) was up to his old tricks claiming the title of the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.35, while Ji Ho Lee (Charlotte, N.C.) picked up a victory for the Pirates in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.07.

On the diving board, freshman Quinn Murtha picked up the victory in the 3-meter competition.

Lastly, the Pirates were victorious in the 400-yard freestyle relay, edging the Broncs by just .25 of a second. Gideon Langenbusch (Oberhausen, Germany), Minar, Gaige Ryan (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) took home the title with a 3:11.32.Â

Seton Hall will return to the pool for a duel meet when they host Army at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 23. The meet is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
