GULF SHORES, ALA. – Senior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) fired a 1-under-par, 71, to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a 12th place finish at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Â
Acevedo was brilliant during the final round, suffering just one blemish, a bogey on the par-4, No. 11 hole. He had two birdies and a team-best 15 pars for his second sub-par round of the season and the 11th of his career in tournament play.
Â
For the three-day event, Acevedo finished tied for 22nd place among 75 individual golfers with a 5-over-par, 78-72-71-221. Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard won the individual title at 4-under-par.
Â
As a team, Seton Hall shot a 22-over-par, 310, on Tuesday, and finished in 12th place with a 47-over-par, 306-295-310-911 for the tournament.
Â
Junior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) had five birdies, but a dreaded triple-bogey on the par-4, No. 14 hole hampered an otherwise impressive round. He finished with a 4-over-par, 76, in the final round. For the tournament, Ramachandran tied for 36th place with an 8-over-par, 73-75-76-224.
Â
Graduate student Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man) shot an 8-over-par, 80, on Tuesday. For the three-day event, he shot a 16-over-par, 77-75-80-232.
Â
Freshman Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) carded an 11-over-par, 83, in the final round. For the tournament, he finished two strokes behind McAuley with an 18-over-par, 78-73-83-234.
Â
Due to COVID-19 contact tracing, the Pirates were forced to play with only four golfers for the tournament, so the scores of all four golfers per round have counted.

THE COURSE:
Featuring rolling fairways and large undulating greens, Cotton Creek at Craft Farms Golf Resort is very playable from the forward tees and a true championship challenge of over 7,000 yards from the tips. True to its Palmer design, this traditional 18-hole masterpiece was laid out to challenge rather than intimidate, with numerous risk/reward opportunities throughout.
Â
Golf Digest has consistently rated Cotton Creek as one of the Best Places to Play! This 4-star course, located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, features tree-lined, rolling fairways surrounded by lakes. The lush course is challenging for low handicap players but with five staggered tee boxes, it is a fun challenge for golfers at any level.
Â
Considering a risky shot to go for the green? Your bravery will be rewarded with the large undulating greens. The 6th Hole is the most challenging on Cotton Creek. With a well-placed tee shot over water to the fairway, the 2nd shot also requires a smart swing over more water to the green. A birdie on this hole delights anyone who rises to meet its challenge!
Â
THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and hosts South Alabama and Eastern Michigan, the field featured 10 other teams including: Ball State, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, Lamar, Lipscomb, Louisiana, Southern Illinois, Texas State and Western Kentucky.
Â
UP NEXT:
Seton Hall will return to tournament action on April 11-12 for three rounds of golf at the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational at Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn.
