Pirates Conclude Season at BIG EAST Championship

Cayce, S.C. -Â The tenth seeded Seton Hall women's tennis team battled No. 7 seed Butler valiantly in their BIG EAST Championship first-round match Thursday at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center, but the Pirates ultimately lost to the Bulldogs, 4-0, after only being able to field four healthy players.
With only four healthy athletes, Butler immediately earned two points at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. In doubles play, the sophomore pairing of Hiba El Khalifi and Aina Plana Ventosa earned a 6-3 win over Delaney Schurhamer and Sara Linn at No. 2, but Butler secured the overall doubles point with a win at No. 1 and No. 3 by default.
In singles, the Pirates had one-set leads at No. 2 and No. 4. Senior Minja Gligic took her first set at No. 2 singles over Lauren Padgett, 6-4, and El Khalifi took her first set at No. 4 over Linn, 6-4, but they were unable to complete wins as Butler clinched the 4-0 result when Schurhamer triumphed over Plana Ventosa at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
