Seton Hall Honors Graduating Senior Class of 2021

Maplewood, N.J. - On May 11, Seton Hall Athletics celebrated its 49 graduating seniors with its ninth annual senior banquet, which was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but returned in 2021, serving as the department's first in-person, multi-sport event of the year.
Cristina Fernandez (Parsippany, N.J.) of the women's cross country team landed the top award of the evening, as she was named the department's Most Valuable Pirate. Fernandez has been an influential member of the Seton Hall community for four years; she founded a non-profit group on campus dedicated to providing access to medicine, education and development for low income families. As president of MEDLIFE at Seton Hall, she has participated in international medical service trips to Ecuador and Peru where she has assisted impoverished communities and set up mobile medical clinics. Additionally, Fernandez has raised funds for various clean water initiatives for villages across South America. She also is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a three-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic team, an inductee into Chi Alpha Sigma, the student-athlete honor society, and a 2019-20 Seton Hall Academic All-Star for having one of the top-10 grade point averages in the athletics department. Fernandez has been accepted into Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia) of the men's basketball team was named the department's Senior Male Athlete of the Year after a stellar campaign on the court for the Pirates, being one of only two players in the BIG EAST Conference to rank in the league's top-five in scoring and rebounding. He was named BIG EAST Player of the Year, the Haggerty Award Met Player of the Year, All-District, All-BIG EAST, All-Met and Associated Press All-America honorable mention.
Also nominated for Senior Male Athlete of the Year were Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.) of the swimming & diving team and Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) of the baseball team.
Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) of the women's basketball team was named the department's Senior Female Athlete of the Year after a great season in which she was the only player in the BIG EAST Conference to rank in the top-15 in all five major statistical categories: scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks and steals. She was named to the All-BIG EAST first team and the All-Met Writers second team.
Also nominated for Senior Female Athlete of the Year were Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) of the softball team and Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) of the golf team.
