
Seton Hall Places 225 Student-Athletes on BIG EAST All-Academic Team

NEW YORK - Seton Hall student-athletes continue to make the grade, and after another successful 2020-21 academic year in the classroom, the BIG EAST Conference has recognized the success by placing 225 Pirates on its All-Academic team for recording a grade point average of 3.0 and above, the league announced Tuesday. This number represents approximately 83 percent of the Seton Hall student-athlete population.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 11 member schools and five affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee.
Student-athletes at Seton Hall continue to excel in the classroom at a record pace. The department's cumulative GPA of 3.491 is an all-time high, and in addition to the 225 BIG EAST All-Academic team selections, 160 student-athletes made the Seton Hall Spring 2021 Dean's List for posting a GPA above 3.4. Also of special note:

- Fifty-one student-athletes were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society
- Thirty-eight out of 50 seniors who received their bachelor's degree graduated with a 3.2 GPA or higher to earn the department's Academic Merit Award
- Men's soccer junior CJ Tibbling was named second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America and first-team Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches
- Men's basketball junior Ike Obiagu was named BIG EAST Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
- The men's soccer and volleyball teams were winners of the BIG EAST's Team Excellence Awards for having the highest GPA among the conference members
