Pirates Push Past Stony Brook For Third Straight Win

New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team won a decisive match at No. 3 doubles to earn the first point against Stony Brook and never looked back as the Pirates cruised past the Seawolves, 6-1,  Friday night at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.
The win gives the Pirates their third straight to improve to 3-1 on the young season.
Junior Arina Gumerova and freshman Arabella Moen got the Pirates off to a great start with a strong win at No. 1 doubles over Stony Brook's Mathilde Sreeves and Sara Medved. The Seawolves tied it up with a No. 2 doubles win, but the Pirates secured the point when senior Chloe Hamlin and sophomore Oliwia Kempinski came up victorious at No. 3.
The Pirates then raced out to an advantage at singles with Kempinski coming up with the first win at No. 6, breezing past Carmen Rubio, 6-0, 6-1, for her third straight singles win. Gumerova quickly followed at No. 1 with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win.
Freshman Hili Kronzon clinched the team win with her straight sets victory over Medved, 6-4, 6-4.
The Pirates then finished up with a pair of exciting tiebreaker wins. Junior Aina Plana Ventosa was in a hard-fought battle with Chandrika Joshi that ended with a 7-2 tiebreak win at No. 3 singles. Lastly, at No. 2 singles, Hamlin overcame a first-set loss with a huge second set win, followed by coming from behind to win the tiebreaker, 10-7.
Seton Hall will be right back at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness Saturday night when it hosts Bucknell at 6:30 p.m.
