The senior guard was preseason all-conference pick and went on to rank fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring
NEW YORK - Seton Hall men's basketball senior guard Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, the conference office announced Sunday afternoon. The league's head coaches choose the all-conference squads and are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Rhoden's selection gives Seton Hall a first-team selection for the sixth time in seven seasons. He joins Sandro Mamukelashvili (2021), Myles Powell (2020 & 2019), Angel Delgado (2017) and Isaiah Whitehead (2016) in that category.
The Pirates' vocal leader who steadily developed from a freshman that averaged 13.1 minutes and 3.4 points per game to an all-league selection, Rhoden ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring (16.2 points per game), 15th in rebounding (6.9 rebounds per game), fifth in free throw percentage (80 percent) and eighth in minutes played (33.5 minutes per game). Rhoden is one of only three players (Justin Lewis, Marquette; Javon Freeman-Liberty, DePaul) that ranks in the top 15 in both scoring and rebounding.
Rhoden has been the linchpin for Seton Hall in this recent stretch where it has won eight of its last 10 games. He is averaging 17.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from three-point range. Rhoden has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll six times and is tied with Connecticut's Adama Sanogo for the most rebounds in a single game by a BIG EAST player this season when he grabbed 18 rebounds in a win over DePaul on Feb. 19.
Rhoden will leave The Hall as a top 40 scorer in program history with 1,241 points entering the post season. He is one of only 12 Pirates to log more than 1,200 points and 600 rebounds in a career. With the Pirates on track to appear in their first NCAA Tournament since 2018-19, Rhoden will have played on three teams that won at least 20 games, two NCAA Tournament teams and was a key contributor for the 2020 BIG EAST regular season championship squad.
The Pirates will be back in action on Wednesday evening as they take on Georgetown at 9:30 p.m. in the first round of the 2022 BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin will have the call on AM970 and Tim Brando and Bill Raftery will be the broadcast team on FS1. Tickets to the BIG EAST Tournament are available at Ticketmaster.com.
