Staten Island, N.Y. - All seven Seton Hall women's tennis players who competed Tuesday at Wagner won at least once in a very balanced effort as the Pirates dispatched the Seahawks, 6-1, at the College of Staten Island Courts.Â
The Hall continues to post strong doubles play, winning all three rounds to earn the doubles point. The tandem of junior Arina Gumerova and freshman Arabella Moen continue to dominate, moving to 10-1 on the season as a duo after topping Tara Dakic and Gabrielle Perraudin, 6-2. Senior Chloe Hamlin and junior Aina Plana Ventosa were also strong at No. 2 doubles, and sophomores Oliwia Kempinski and Emily O'Donovan picked up their second spring win and sixth overall as a team.Â
In singles, Gumerova cruised past Perraudin, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, and Plana Ventosa came back to defeat Fidan Khalilzade at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. Moen was on already her way to victory at No. 4 singles when Samantha Lugtu had to retire. Junior Hiba El Khalifi lost only five games at No. 5 singles, defeating Alegra D'Alessandro, 6-2, 6-3. Kempinski survived a third set and knocked off Paula Ysabelle Uy in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.
Seton Hall has a big home weekend of BIG EAST matches coming up, facing DePaul Friday at 4:30 p.m., and Marquette Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Both matches will take place at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J.
