NEW YORK - Seton Hall guard Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday morning. Dawes averaged 18.5 ppg and shot 54.5 percent from the field across the Pirates' two victories last week over Monmouth and Missouri.
Dawes is the first Pirate to win BIG EAST Player of the Week honors since Sandro Mamukelashvili on Feb. 8, 2021.
Dawes was the leader for Seton Hall in its 93-87 win over Missouri on Sunday night, scoring a game-high 25 points and knocking down four 3-pointers in the win. It marked Dawes' second 25-point outing of the season, matching his career high that he set on Nov. 29 against Northeastern. The senior shot an efficient 9-of-16 from the floor and also pitched in with three assists in the victory. Dawes also added a strong showing in Tuesday night's win over Monmouth, as he scored 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and perfect 5-for-5 clip at the free throw line.
Dawes and the Pirates prepare for the start of BIG EAST play this week, beginning with a home showdown with UConn on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Next, The Hall will travel to Cincinnati for its first road test of conference play against Xavier at 2 p.m. on FS1. Both games will be broadcast on the Seton Hall Pirates Basketball Radio Network on the SHU Pirates Mobile App, SHUPiraes.com, Varsity Network, SiriusXM and the SiriusXM app.
