
Xie Fuels Pirates in Round One at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – Senior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) fired a 1-over-par, 73, to pace the Seton Hall men's golf team in round one of the 2023 Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Course on Sunday.

Xie had four birdies and nine pars to fuel his strong opening round. After 18 holes, he's tied for 26th place among 108 individual golfers. SIU Edwardsville's Brady Kaufmann and George Mason's Aryan Vuradi currently lead the individual field after a 4-under-par, 68, in round one.

As a team, Seton Hall is in 16th place with a 13-over-par, 301, in round one. Fellow BIG EAST foe Marquette is currently the team leader at 1-under-par. Another BIG EAST competitor, St. John's is two strokes behind The Hall entering Monday's second round.

Junior Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) and sophomore Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) are currently tied for 35th place following a 3-over-par, 75, on Sunday. Sun had three birdies and an eagle on the par-5, No. 11 hole to fuel his round. O'Brien had three birdies and nine pars.

Sophomore George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) shot a 6-over-par, 78, in the opening round, while freshman David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) had a 9-over-par, 81.

Competing as an individual, junior Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) shot an 8-over-par, 80, on Monday.

Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

The field will play three rounds over three days with a shotgun start at 10:45 a.m. ET each day. The Hall will be paired with golfers from Ball State, Marshall and SIU Edwardsville in round one.
