
Kempinski Wins in Singles, Pirates Lose Match to Army West Point

New Providence, N.J. - Oliwia Kempinski won her 10th singles match of the 2022-23 season with a sound sweep at No. 3 singles, but the Seton Hall women's tennis team succumbed to Army West Point, 4-1, Friday night at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.Â
The teams played clinch, but the Pirates had their No. 5 and No. 6 singles competitors in their third sets and thus had an opportunity to make the match even closer.
Kempinski took down Isabella Brilliant at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4, to improve to 10-4 in singles this season, including 3-0 this semester.
At No. 1 singles, Arina Gumerova lost her first set Cooper Jackson, but rebounded to take the second set and force a third, but ultimately fell, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.
When Army West Point clinched, the Pirates had Arabella Moen tied at No. 5 singles with Vennmukiil Mathivanan, and Hiba El Khalifi was leading Sophie McKenzie at No. 6.
Seton Hall will regroup and host Monmouth Saturday night at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J. Match time is 5:45 p.m.
