
Richmond's 20, Bediako's Double-Double Push Pirates Past Villanova, 66-56

Newark, N.J. - Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points and Jaden Bediako (Brampton, Ontario) posted his fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Pirates earned a crucial home victory over Villanova, 66-56, on Wednesday night at Prudential Center.
Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 18 points and seven rebounds as the Pirates earned their sixth Quad-1 win of the season. Richmond also tallied six rebounds and five assists for his eight game of the season with at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists.
How It Happened
It was back-and-forth in the opening minutes before Villanova jumped out to a 13-6 lead. The Pirates started to get stops on defense and three-point baskets on consecutive possessions from Richmond and Davis trimmed the Wildcats' lead to one, 13-12, at the 13:08 mark.
With the Pirates down by two with 3:18 left before halftime, a 10-0 run that featured two three-pointers by Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) gave The Hall its first lead of the game as it went up by eight, 30-22.
A three-pointer by Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.) at the start of the second half extended Seton Hall's lead to nine, 33-24. Davis' three-pointer at 17:39 in the second half was later followed by Addae-Wusu's second trey of the second half, giving Seton Hall a 41-29 lead and it forced Villanova to call a timeout.
A 6-0 run by the Wildcats trimmed The Hall's lead down to six, 43-37, with 12:46 to play. That's when Davis went to work. He converted a fadeaway jumper and later cashed in on a foul line jumper more than two minutes later, pushing the Pirates' lead back to 10, 47-37. A defensive stop on the other end led to a three-pointer by Richmond that made it 50-37 with 9:10 left as Villanova called another timeout.
Villanova wouldn't go away, however, as it used an 11-2 run to get within four, 52-48, with just over five minutes to go. Davis was able to draw a foul on The Hall's next offensive possession and he made both free throws. After a defensive stop, Richmond grabbed the rebound and found Bediako underneath on the other the end for a layup that gave the Pirates some breathing room with at 56-48 at the 4:10 mark in the second half. The Pirates converted on 10-of-12 free throws down the stretch that sealed the win.
